Mark Simundson Joined the NSL Board in March 2013. He is a senior claims manager for Bechtel Corporation providing claims management to Bechtel projects in the Civil, Power, Oil Gas &Chemical and Mining & Metals Global Business Units. Mark has assisted Bechtel in resolving nearly a billion US dollars of claims and disputes through negotiation, alternative dispute resolution and / or litigation. Mark’s work has required extensive travel both domestically and internationally as well as three overseas permanent assignments during the past 24 years. From 1989 until 1996, Mark worked as a claims manager in the San Francisco Office. During the period 1997-99, Mark was the Contracts Manager for Foreign Procurement on the Korea High Speed Rail Project. From 1999 to 2003, Mark was Manager of Claims based in London for Bechtel projects in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Southwest Asia. Mark relocated to Maryland in 2004 and has been based in the DC region ever since with the exception of an overseas posting in Doha, Qatar 2009-10.
Prior to joining Bechtel, Mark worked for a national public accounting firm and a private consulting firm representing both owners and contractors on construction matters. Mark graduated from Augustana College with a B. of A. in Accounting and Business Administration. His written works on claims management have been published by Wiley Law Publications, the Asia Business Forum and the Centre for Management Technology. Mark has been a member of the board of directors for Big Brothers / Big Sisters of San Francisco and Seoul Foreign School. Mark and his wife Loretta have served as a host family for Israeli and Palestinian young adults for the past four summers for New Story Leadership. Mark is also actively involved with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County and Habitat International.
