The Jewish Daily Forward is a famous New York paper that has been published since 1897. This week, it carried the news of the New Story Leadership program. Journalist, Audrey Hoffer has been researching the piece for the past 6 months, and it was published this week on Saint Patrick’s Day, which for us with our Irish connections, is a good omen. NSL forges partneship with American Studies Institute at Al Quds University

On a recent visit to Israel and Palestine, NSL founder Paul Costello met with representatives from Al Quds university, and the head of its American Studies Institute , Professor Mahammad Dajani. Professor Dajani welcomed the opportunity that NSL offers his students and all students at Al Quds to experience the American system as interns. It is something they learn about in the classroom, he said, but there is no substitute for being there. Professor Dajani and the American Studies Institute have signed on to be the first of our key University partners in the region, and they will help us find and select the best students. The Institute is well known, and in 2006, it was one of the places that President Obama visited while still a Senator. It is fitting that the program that hosted the President some years ago, is now teaming with a program that will allow some of their students to come to Washington and work in a Senate office.

Meeting with Irish Ambassador Michael Collins

The NSL had an hour long meeting with the Irish Ambassador Michael Collins who told the team that he is 100% behind the initiative. Ambassador Collins explored with the team ways to access other embassies that might also be willing to sign on to what he called an exciting alumni initiative. He was especially pleased to welcome back John Callaghan, from the Irish program of 2008 who was no stranger to the Ambassador or the Embassy because John was the intern there in 2008.
