Diane (Dee) is a graduate (2001) and alum of the Washington Ireland Programme for Service and Leadership, and a co-founding member of New Story Leadership for the Middle East (Summer 2009). She has been based in Palestine and Israel for the past three years working as a Human Rights Expert for a European Union rule of law mission supporting the Palestinian police and justice institutions in Ramallah. She is now back in Washington DC this summer supporting NSL once again.
She previously worked as a Human Rights Advisor for a number of years at the European Parliament (EP) in Brussels, Belgium. In 2009, Diane participated in an EP mission to Israel and Palestine – including Gaza – a few weeks after the Gaza war (Winter 2008/9) to assess whether there had been breaches of international humanitarian law during the hostilities. She co-created and edited a short film following this mission, which was screened in the European Parliament in Brussels in April 2009.
She holds a Masters degree in International Human Rights Law (LLM) from University College London and also studied Law (LLB) and French (BA) at the National University of Ireland, Galway
